Buildings on Farmville do not look only nice, they give you additional experience points what helps you reaching higher levels more fast. Thus buildings are some kinds of investment and definitely more fancy than plowing the field, deleting it and plowing it again (stupid form of getting more experience but it works). I prefer the buildings though.
